Giant carpet readied for pie fight
A giant pie fight is to be held on a large carpet in the US this weekend.

The event is to take place as part of the Byron Day's Festival this weekend (July 30th and 31st) in Byron, Michigan.

Local company Village Flooring has provided the carpet, with a hard ground platform underneath and the pies themselves are being supplied by other local firms.

A carpet cleaning company will then demonstrate its skills by completely cleansing the surface of all the debris afterwards.

Speaking to news provider MLive.com, Byron Days director Rick Strayhorn explained that the test of the carpet would be provided by the use of particularly messy and stain-inflicting pie fillings.

He stated: "We're not talking your basic whipped-cream pie - we're talking cherry, apple, blueberry. The goal is to make a mess on the carpeting."

In January this year, Georgia-based carpet marker Shaw Industries created a large carpet for a marquee in which a record-breaking pie fight was to be attempted.

Participants were seeking to get into the Guinness Book of Records for the most pies thrown in 60 seconds, the Star-Telegram reported.

The flooring company was taking part to show how stain-proof its carpets were.
