Green carpet at awards emphasises eco-theme
18th January 2010
According to the Charlotte Observer, the Westin Hotel in the North Carolina city will be home to the Pride Awards this weekend (January 16th), which honour African-Americans in the region for their work in social, economic and environmental sustainment.
Chief executive officer of Pride Communications, Dee Dixon, commented that this year, the event is focused on an eco-friendly theme and guests - including the city's mayor Anthony Foxx - will be encouraged to pose for pictures on the green carpet before they proceed inside to enjoy the evening.
Other special events during the evening will include a So You Think You Can Sing karaoke contest, as well as local entertainment and a call to action from the mayor.
A green carpet was also used at last year's Tokyo Film Festival to promote its environmentally-friendly theme.
The colourful carpet was crafted from recycled plastic bottles and celebrities including Avatar's Sigourney Weaver were snapped on it during the event.
