A London flat includes hardwood flooring among its key features, it has been revealed.

The family home - which is situated at the top of a refurbished Victorian warehouse - has been designed by architects Theis + Khan, with a hardwood floor combined with a spiral staircase, Architects Journal reports.

Located on Ravey Street in the City, the home has been designed with the combination as a way of maximising space.

As well as the hardwood floor, the home comes with timber decking, rough-sawn timber external cladding and white painted plaster and brickwork.

In addition to this, the home has a sedum roof, with this plant soaking up and saving water.

Hardwood flooring is a highly cost effective material because it lasts for a long time, it has been stated.

This was the reason for it being installed in a $9,511 (£5,890) refurbishment of the mayor's office in the city of Richmond, Virginia, according to his secretary.

She told the media it was an "efficient investment", the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported earlier this month.
