Hardwood flooring firm gains green certification
All the hardwood flooring products produced by one firm in Georgia, US have achieved a new air quality certification standard.

Shaw hardwood flooring has had all its range accredited with 'Greenguard Children & Schools SM Certified' status from the Greenguard Environmental Institute (GEI), the Dalton Daily Citizen reports.

The award follows a declaration by the institute in September that all Shaw's laminate flooring products also meet the certification criteria.

Such a qualifying standard is achieved by keeping down the quantity of volatile organic compounds in the products to below 13.5 parts per billion of formaldehyde, in line with the California chronic exposure levels measurement.

"We are very pleased to be the first hardwood flooring manufacturer to earn GEI's prestigious Greenguard Children & Schools certification on our entire line up of products," remarked Shaw's corporate director of sustainability David Wilkerson.

Greenguard's certification standards apply not only to floors, but also for products like doors, bedding, insulation, paints and electronic systems.
