Hardwood flooring part of eco-friendly home

A newly built eco-friendly house has hardwood flooring as one of its elements, it has been revealed.

The home near Chevy Chase in Pennsylvania, US, has cherry hardwood flooring throughout, the Gazette reports.

Such flooring is present upstairs and downstairs, with bamboo hardwood flooring in the entrance by the front door.

Cork flooring is also present as the surface used in the garage.

The flooring materials are part of a home that has geothermal heating, solar panels, LED recessed lighting and high levels of natural light exposure through its numerous windows.

It is also partly built with recycled wood and glass and has both drywall and air conditioning systems in place to prevent the accumulation of mildew.

The ability of hardwood to be green was indicated when a plant producing such items gained new eco-friendly certification this month.

Shaw Hardwood Flooring picked up the 'Greenguard Children & Schools SM Certified' status from the Greenguard Environmental Institute (GEI), the Dalton Daily Citizen reported, signifying that its wares had little negative impact on school air quality.
