Home renovations make selling easier
The value added to homes by redecorating and restyling the property has been highlighted by television’s interior designer duo Colin and Justin.
Both stars have advised homeowners that selling property is much easier when the décor looks stylish and well-presented.
Although this isn’t new advice to most people it is becoming more and more important within the current economic climate.
The pair wrote for The Montreal Gazette, “With the property market more competitive than ever, it means property has to shine.
“Speak to most realtors and they’ll concur; well-presented homes simply “perform” better at sale time.”
Suggestions for potential renovations include painting, furniture placement, lighting, kitchen or bathroom modernisation and flooring.
Flooring changes and painting are each single changes which create a totally different atmosphere within a room.
For a long term investment solid wood flooring is the best option and will add value to your home, however for a quick and simple update laminate floors are ideal.
Laminate floors are cheaper but the floor will clearly be new and in good condition which is likely to influence potential buyers.
If you are unsure of shade or colour the conventional wisdom is that a light, neutral shade works best when you want to sell.
This is because it allows the viewers to project their own ideas on to a fresh canvas, which is one of the reasons that light oak flooring is so popular.
