Homeowners 'should not attempt hardwood floor refinishing
7th June 2010
Mitch Kuffa Jr, a builder and home inspector, told a reader of the timesherald.com that refinishing a hardwood floor is something which many seasoned professionals struggle to complete correctly.
He stated that common mistakes homeowners make include using the wrong type of sander and applying a high-gloss sealer which highlights any irregularities in the finish.
"To do the job right, you need a large, upright, floor sander. These are heavy, hard to handle and have to keep moving or they seriously can damage the floor," Mr Kuffa Jr said.
He added that such a job should be left to a competent professional to get the very best results.
Wood refinishing firm Mr Sandless noted comments by the National Association of Realtors in the US recently that "hardwood floors are among the most sought-after house features of prospective home buyers".
