International carpet event is huge success
A carpet exhibition held at Dubai airport was deemed a huge success as sales beat last year’s figures by 15 percent.
Buyers proved that the global economic crisis would not stand in the way of the show’s success and the exhibition of 170,000 handmade carpets attracted a massive number of sales.
The Carpet and Art Oasis was held at the Dubai Airport Expo Centre and included works of art alongside the carpets which were also works of art and were produced in India, Turkey and Iran.
There were at least 57 manufacturing and trading companies from different parts of the world which participated in the event and sales reached around £5.5 million.
Yousif Al Sahlawi, the Senior Executive Director of Corporate Affairs, said that the number of visitors to the carpet exhibition had increased by 10 percent on the year before.
He said: “Oasis is aimed at enhancing Dubai’s position as a hub for trades, cultures and arts reflecting ancient heritage of ancient nations known for producing hand-made carpets.”
The event was held over the first three weeks as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival and the number of exhibitors has also risen this year as the event has grown.
