Kitchen floors 'could become self-cleaning'

Researchers from Purdue University have developed a material that allows oily smears to be wiped away using only water, effectively making it self-cleaning.
They say it can be applied to a range of surfaces, including kitchen floors and counters, to reduce the need for detergents and solvents.
Lead researcher Jeffrey Youngblood explained that the coating attracts water, while a substance similar to Teflon repels oil.
"With these materials, if you stuck an oil droplet on them you could completely remove it with water. You could basically do soap-free rinsing," he said.
Interior design consultant Victoria Castillo recently told the Pocono Record that installing new kitchen flooring can add value to a home.
She recommended that those who are hoping to sell a property take simple steps such as this so that potential buyers will not be put off by outdated design.
