Cork flooring is a feature of one of several home kitchens located in an area of the Californian vineyards that are going on public display.

The Kitchens in the Vineyards home tour will be taking place on April 24th, the 13th time this annual event has occurred, the Napa Valley Register reports.

Among the Napa Valley homes opening their doors is that of Tim McDonald and partner Lisa Pope-McDonald, who is an interior designer.

Cork flooring is among the elements in the remodelled kitchen, which also features cabinets made from renewable wood.

Built in the 1880s, the farmhouse has had a colourful history, being bought one day before the famous 1906 earthquake, suffering a fire and being the scene of a major drugs bust.

Earlier this month, US homeowner John Cazort told the News-Leader.com that cork had been his flooring material of choice when giving his kitchen a makeover.

He explained that as well as being greener, the material is also resistant to denting when utensils are dropped on it.
