Householders planning to install new flooring over the bank holiday weekend have been advised to be aware of their limitations.
Research by FindaProperty.com has revealed that a fifth of people are planning some form of DIY, with tiling among the popular tasks being undertaken.
But Fiona Hodge, assistant editor at DIY Week, highlighted the importance of hiring a professional if a consumer is not confident about carrying out the work.
"Know your limits and make sure you are prepared for the job you are doing," she said, adding that a rise in accidents is typically seen over a bank holiday weekend.
Those buying new flooring were also advised that it is often better to invest in quality goods when making improvements to the home, in order to achieve a better finished product.
The FindaProperty.com survey indicated that 70 per cent of DIYers are planning to spend £100 or less on materials and tools this weekend.
