Laminate cost 'ideal for cheap re-fit'

The low cost of laminate flooring is seeing it being advocated as a good way of refurbishing foreclosed homes in the US.

In a feature on property investment in such residences, Northjersey.com noted that making some internal modifications at a relatively low cost could substantially boost the value of such units.

Flooring was one example given, with it being noted that laminate flooring can cost as little as $1 (66p) per sq ft.

Wood was also recommended, with the suggestion that this could be an attractive way of replacing carpets, which often deteriorate when left alone in abandoned houses over long periods, due to unchecked infestations such as mould and mildew.

Laminate was advocated as an alternative to wood because it can provide a hardwood appearance for less money.

One building that has already had laminate flooring installed is the new maternity unit at Sudbury Regional Hospital in Canada.

The flooring was noted by members of the press as they were given a sneak preview of St Joseph's Health Centre ahead of its March 28th opening, the Sudbury Star reported this week.
