Laminate flooring firm gains certificate
A laminate flooring firm has revealed it has become the first maker of the surfaces to achieve an eco-friendly certification concerning the responsible sourcing of materials from forests.

US-based Wilsonart said that it has gained Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification, earning it the right to display the 'checkmark and tree' eco-logo that shows it sources materials from responsibly managed forestry projects.

The independent award provides the company with a status no other laminate flooring company has and according to technology manager at the firm Joe Branch, it means they have established a "benchmark" for laminate flooring makers.

He stated that the achievement was a hard one in the light of the make-up of laminate, "given its inherent thickness and the greater complexity of layers necessary to achieve our flooring's standards for durability, performance and longevity, while also meeting FSC chain of custody requirements".

Building products firm Build Direct recently announced it was launching an online guide to help those installing laminate flooring to choose the best product for them.
