Laminate flooring 'needs a sub-floor'
17th December 2009
In a list of tips for those carrying out home improvements, the Courier Press advised that failing to install such a sub-surface is a common error for those carrying out DIY.
It stated: "Laminate flooring needs an underlayment/vapour barrier for almost any surface upon which it is being installed. Not only will a subfloor protect flooring from moisture, it will also help with soundproofing."
An even subfloor is also needed for hardwood flooring, the news provider noted.
The advice was included alongside warnings not to install the wrong kind of window, forget the grout sealer, hire an unqualified worker or fail to apply a coat of primer before painting.
Laminate flooring is the best option for a basement, Business Resources suggested this week.
It said the surface avoids the retention of odour that a carpet would incur and is less expensive and lower maintenance than tiling.
