Manufacturer 'committed' to sustainable flooring

Flooring firm Shaw has stressed its commitment to sustainability in a new publication.

The first ever annual sustainability report of the firm outlines its commitment to best ecological practice, including matters such as energy efficiency and recycling.

Actions undertaken in the past year include collecting 244 million pounds of old carpets from consumers since it launched its carpet collection network, 85 per cent of which has been recycled into new products.

Chief executive Vance Bell said: "At Shaw, we believe in the importance of substantiating environmental claims as part of good governance, sound business conduct policy and our long-standing values of honesty, integrity and hard work."

Shaw has been carrying out its work while looking to expand operations in the United States (US).

Earlier this week, it was revealed that it is to extend its filament yarn production capacity at its factory in Calhoun, Georgia.

The move, which is part of the company's plan to grow in the US, will create around 200 new jobs.
