Those keen to ensure their floors are healthy may wish to use a marmoleum floor that is lacking in chemicals that may put toxins into the air.
Such emissions may be detrimental to children's health but Rachel Hulan of US interiors firm Path Design said that such floors come with no adhesives required to put them in place.
Describing one such product made by American firm Forbo, she said this means they fit into place like a jigsaw instead.
Ms Hulan stated: "Not only do these easy-to-install, click-in-place panels come in two sizes and 24 fun colors, they are ecologically produced from natural materials such as linseed oil and jute."
Another laminate flooring product recently launched in the US was created by California-based QuickStep.
By having no adhesives and therefore elimitating volatile organic compounds from the surrounding air, it is California 93120 Phase 1 compliant for formaldehyde emissions, the firm noted earlier this month.
