More colour and pattern tipped as trend for carpet owners

People are likely to use more colours and patterns when redecorating their homes, it has been suggested.

Interior designer and spokesperson for the Ideal Home show Linda Barker said that people are now experimenting more as they see their residences as places to live in, rather than simply improve and then sell.

She stated: "There is a certain move away from a minimalist look - white and cream - and now it is much more eclectic and much more about the individual."

Such a trend could influence those looking for a new carpet, as this could prompt some to choose one with a bright colour or intricate pattern.

The design of interiors is also taking on an individualistic element with a revival of the make-do-and-mend culture of the 1950s due to the economic climate, House Beautiful Magazine stated earlier this month.

It also said that styles associated with that decade are making a comeback.
