New carpet fibre goes into manufacture
A new kind of fibre is being introduced to carpets after a collaboration between two firms.

Cellulose fibre producer Lenzing AG and Best Wool Carpets BV - based in Austria and the Netherlands respectively - are joining forces to use the former company's Tencel product in carpets.

Until now, Tencel had been too short and fine a fibre to be used in making carpet products, but Lenzing has now developed a modified version.

One advantage ascribed to Tencel is that it has a high natural moisture level, enabling it to regulate humidity and moisture levels in a room.

The result of this is that less moisture forms on the walls and windows, while there is less chance for mould to form on the carpet itself.

In another technological development in from the carpet sector this month, German chemical company Bayer has invented a carpet that feels like moss when walked on.
