The new bus station in the city of Derby will need replacement carpets after serious flooding caused the existing ones to be drenched and ruined.
A burst pipe covered the floors of the facility in three inches of water and cabinet member of transport at the council Lucy Care said the carpet damage was sufficient for new ones to be required.
The council is now carrying out a major mopping up exercise and the scheduled opening of the bus station on March the 28th is now in doubt.
Ceilings and furniture have also been damaged and an assessment is being carried out to establish how bad the situation is and how much repair work is required overall.
Another building having new carpets fitted after sustaining water damage is the Judge George W Armstrong Library in Natchez, Mississippi.
It is closing this month for the new flooring to be installed, after it was damaged when Hurricane Gustav hit in 2008, the Natchez Democrat reported last week.
