Five post offices in Gwent are set to receive funding to help them install new flooring.
The floors will be part of a £59,288 programme to upgrade three outlets in Blaenau Gwent, with a further £23,784 allocated for two offices in the Caerphilly area, the South Wales Argus reports.
As well as new flooring, the post offices will get equipment and fittings including shutters, alarms, lighting and CCTV, with one of the Blaenau Gwent stores having a coffee bar fitted and Cwmcarn receiving a renewed shop front.
The work is being done as part of the £45 million Post Office Diversification Fund, which will help pay for improvements and new jobs in post offices in Wales over the next three years.
Such money could lead to further demand for new floors as more of the facilities are upgraded.
The news comes as parent company Royal Mail announced a 37 million rise in its group operating profit in the first six months of 2009-10, which could free up funds for similar work in more post offices.
