New flooring product aimed at reducing risk of injury

A new product designed to reduce injuries due to falls has been created in the US.

SorbaSHOCK sees a tile installed under flooring and is intended to prevent broken bones by absorbing the impact.

It has been designed to cushion the body at acute points, while remaining solid and stable during normal activities.

The patent-pending technology was licensed from the University of Notre Dame and comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that one-third of adults in the US over the age of 65 suffer a fall each year, with over 13,500 people in the age group dying as a result.

Owner of Heritage Corner Health Care Campus Debra Manley remarked: "We are always looking for ways to improve the safety of our residents. So, when we heard about the amazing performance of the SorbaSHOCK product, we knew we had to have it."

Another recent advancement saw a fast-acting adhesive developed in the US, with Interlock Industries president Fred Land telling the Chattanooga Times Free Press that his Spray-Lock product will change the industry.
