New flooring 'should be durable'

Durability is one of the most important factors when choosing new flooring for the home, it has been suggested.

North Carlolina-based television station WFMY advised homeowners that selecting a product that is able to withstand the volume of traffic passing over it is crucial.

Flooring specialist Jeremy Freeman also told the news source that resisting stains and scratches can be important, with many modern carpets including some form of treatment that can withstand the former.

He also noted that style is an important consideration and recommended a new form of tiling known as dura-ceramic, which is not as cold or as brittle as traditional options.

"It's grouted and you don't have the same icy cold feel in the winter," said Mr Freeman. "The grout won't stain [and] it's got a polymer blend so it's easy to keep clean."

Interiors expert Karl Lohnes recently told homemakers.com that laminate flooring is a good option for home offices because it is easy to clean.
