Sustainable flooring is to be used at a new development in the US that aims to see homes produce more energy than they use.
According to Dayton Daily News, builder Mark Buckley and developer Larry Deckard will begin construction on the project this week.
Recycled wood chips are to be used as sustainable flooring with a hardwood veneer, while concrete will also feature.
And each unit is intended to produce three kilowatts of power, which the news source observed is approximately double the typical consumption of a family of four.
"Green projects have to build on par and be competitive with conventionally built houses. That's the only way green houses are going to be sustainable," Mr Buckley remarked.
Earth911.com recently noted that US-based Pioneer Millworks is using wood that has been reclaimed from deconstruction sites as flooring as well as timber.
An adhesive that produces fewer emissions than traditional methods is also used to bind the materials.
