New kitchen flooring helps with modernisation

Kitchen flooring with a retro twist has added a modern feel to a renovated property in Canada.

Steve and Keeli Elaschuk from north-west Calgary wanted their home to be modern, but liked to add some 1950s' style touches as well, reports Canwest News Service.

Kitchen flooring in a black-and-white check look created a space suited to the tastes of Mr Elaschuk.

"I'm glad I got my way with the floor. I knew I was right," he quipped, as the couple have opposing tastes.

The kitchen flooring Ms Elaschuk was plumping for was a grey slate finish, which her husband deemed too modern.

However, the pair are very happy with the results of their renovation project. Ms Elaschuk told the news provider it feels as if she has moved into a new home.

Earlier this year a survey by Halifax found Britons updating their kitchen flooring spend an average of £6,300 on renovating the room.
