A new laminate flooring product will lead to better air quality due to its ability to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs), its maker has said.
California-based QuickStep said its patented locking system means that the floor can be put together without using adhesives, therefore removing all VOCs from the environment.
For this reason, the firm noted, the product is California 93120 Phase 1 compliant for formaldehyde emissions.
QuickStep also said it always seeks to use recycled laminate for its flooring, with 74 per cent coming from these sources.
What wood it does use comes from domestic sustainable forest, with none coming from tropical sources overseas.
Earlier this week, laminate flooring was recommended as the best material for a home office.
Designer Kelly Porter of the Washington Post told readers of the St Petersburg Times such a material in the form of "glossy, wide planks" would make the room look "larger and more urban".
