Nothing new about maple flooring

Kentucky-based AM News noted in a feature on news stories on a particular day through history that it is 100 years since the material was installed in the floor of the Caldwell College Gymnasium.
Described by the paper as "the finest gym of any girl's school in the south", the building was also described as "very modern and is well ventilated by many windows and is lighted with electricity and heated with hot water."
Although the maple gym floor was installed a century ago, the material has an appeal to modern tastes and concerns as well, according to the Montreal Gazette.
In a feature on eco-friendly flooring, the paper noted comments from Adrian Shewchuk of Duro Design, who said that materials such as oak and maple from sustainable forests are the sort of materials that appeal to green consumers.
