Old pub carpet sold for charity

Old carpet from a local pub is going to be sold to devoted regulars when the flooring is replaced to raise funds for charity.

The carpet in question has been a feature of the Queen’s Head pub in Bedfordshire for the past twenty years so it is very much a part of the building.

Regulars to the public house are expected to snap up the tongue-in-cheek items to do their bit for charity but not all of the customers are likely to join in.

The landlord, Richard Hammond, 52, told the Bedfordshire on Sunday newspaper that the clientele tend to have a love-hate relationship towards the carpet.

Most carpets do not have a particularly long lifespan – unlike investment flooring such as natural hardwood floors – so it is actually surprising that the carpet has lasted so many years.

The carpet will have had to deal with a huge amount of foot traffic on a daily basis, as well as occasional spills which would not help to preserve the carpet.

Those regulars who wish to invest in a section of the miraculous carpet can be assured of its authenticity thanks to certificates provided by The Society for Preservation of Ancient Carpets.
