Demand for new flooring may be set to rise as an "encouraging" increase in the prices of new homes takes place.
Such a verdict on the current state of the construction sector was delivered by Smart New Homes, a firm that deals specifically in new housing.
Responding to new figures from builder Barratt revealing a rise in values of four per cent during the second half of 2009, managing director of Smart New Homes Dave Bexon stated that this was good news.
However, he noted that the "overall tone of the announcement is cautious".
Mr Bexon stated that a major issue is a lack of housing supply and called on the government to act more to boost the number of new homes being built.
One announcement made by the government regarding construction was a pledge by housing minister John Healey earlier this month to double funding for the building of new council homes.
