Potential twist in flooring scandal
A further dramatic twist may present itself in the Chinese engineered flooring scandal which is currently being played out in America.
While those in the flooring industry await the next decision on import duties for the Chinese floors many are anticipating a similar case for imported solid wood flooring.
In a report at Hardwood Floors News, Jonathan Train, president of Alliance for Free Choice and Jobs in Flooring, said: “Unless the petitioners are stopped here and now in this case, they will move forward to block other types of flooring.”
The US Department of Commerce is yet to conclude one way or the other on the issue of import duties being charged on the Chinese engineered flooring products.
The decision is expected soon and if the ruling goes against the imported flooring it is thought that consumers may turn their attention to other Chinese imports, which are cheaper than the US equivalent.
Imported Chinese solid wood floors could cause a rise in sales of imported solid wood flooring, which is likely to provoke a similar legal case around import duties.
The concern adds to the nervous anticipation ahead of the Department of Commerce’s decision, which still has potential to decide in favour of the imported floors and not impose additional duties.
