Prince of Wales 'to promote wool carpet'

A new scheme backed by the likes of John Lewis and the Prince of Wales could bring wool carpets back into vogue.

In an attempt to boost worldwide wool prices to help out farmers, the campaign aims to promote the flooring material as an eco-friendly and fashionable choice.

Marks & Spencer and John Lewis have agreed to run a wool week in their stores as the material can be used for other home furnishings as well as carpets.

Speaking on behalf of the Prince of Wales, a spokesperson from Clarence House said: "He got together all the interested parties, including people in fashion, clothes retailers, carpet manufacturers and representatives of the wool industry, and they agreed to work together to promote wool."

Earlier in January a firm in Cumbria revealed that it had created a technique for creating housing insulation from old wool carpet.

Second Nature claimed that the blocks were more energy efficient than traditional wooden boards.
