Prince tells carpet industry of benefits of wool

Proper wool carpets have many advantages over synthetic alternatives, the heir to the British throne has stated.

Launching the Wool Project in Cambridgeshire, Prince Charles spoke of his belief that woollen carpets are both more sustainable and economically-viable than the non-woollen alternatives that have become commonplace in both homes and business premises over recent years.

The prince addressed supporters with his new initiative at the historic Wimpole Hall, with the Cambridge News revealing that, in addition to members of Britain's carpet trade, delegates included fashion designers and insulation experts.

Already a number of big-name retailers have given their support to the Prince's Wool Project, among them Marks & Spencer and John Lewis.

Both these companies have agreed to run a special wool week in their stores in a bid to educate consumers about the additional uses of wool, aside from for carpets.

Charles is also the founder of the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment and has published a book on architecture and conservation, entitled A Vision of Britain.
