Quality of wooden flooring praised

The quality of wooden flooring has been praised by trustees of a school in the US set to use the material to replace its existing gym surfaces.

West Columbia High School in Texas is to use new wood in its competition gym and will utilise recycled wood flooring in its practice gym, the school's superintendent Carol Bertholf told thefacts.com.

She explained that the decision was made by the trustees of the institution after viewing a nearby gym and observing the quality of its surfaces.

"Angleton has recycled wood floors and we visited there to look at them. They're in great shape. They have no problems with bounce or spring."

The school hopes to have the old floors - which have suffered water damage down the years - replaced by mid-November, so that they are in place for the start of the basketball season.

One education institution in the US that has been praised for its new wooden floors is Norfolk State University.

A student at the university told the Virginian-Pilot that the new hardwood floor in the dance studio is "really impressive".
