Real wood floors with green benefits
Although bamboo and cork flooring options are usually considered the most environmentally friendly flooring choices, real wood isn’t without its benefits.
In an age of increased environmental responsibility and awareness it is more common for people to choose a flooring style with green credentials.
This can put some people off hardwood flooring because it involves cutting down trees to use for timber.
Fortunately because there is such a huge market for timber – it is used for everything from flooring to furniture – that it is sourced from sustainable forests.
Although trees are felled to produce wood floors the trees are in fact the world’s largest and most accessible renewable resource and the only natural resource which is renewable.
While it is important to insure that the trees which are cut down get replaced, trees have been used for timber throughout history and, as long as responsible action is taken and the trees are replaced, then this renewable resource can continue for many years to come.
Legislation has also been brought in which means that timber that comes from Europe is now certified to be from a renewable source.
This means that consumers can have greater confidence that the trees used to make their solid wood flooring are from sustainable forests.
