Reclaimed wood flooring 'preserves history'

The use of reclaimed wood in flooring helps look preserve a degree of history, an industry expert has said.

According to Tommy Sancic - founder and chief executive officer of Olde Wood - using wood from existing structures, such as barns, provides customers with a win-win service.

"They get stronger, more stable building materials that are not only gorgeous and unique, but that are also good for the planet," he said.

Olde Wood's hardwood flooring is made from timber that is sometimes over 400 years old, the colour and character of which can only be achieved over time.

The company has also created a green alternative to engineered flooring by introducing a Russian Birch to its existing reclaimed hardwood range, the combination of which produces an eco-friendly engineered floor.

A not-for-profit organisation, The National Wood Flooring Association, recently suggested that not only is using reclaimed wood in sustainable flooring a good way of being environmentally-friendly, but it also provides homeowners with a unique option.
