Reclaimed wooden floors part of hair salon

An eco-friendly hair salon at Brantford in Canada has used reclaimed wooden flooring as part of its green make-up.

The Beauty Parlour hair salon was designed to "offer environmentally sound, beneficial services, along with a healthier work environment," according to owner Desiree Liliey, the Brantford Expositor reports.

Using reclaimed items as part of the construction of the salon is a key element of this approach and the wooden flooring components came from a granary, bought second hand and coated in tung seed oil to give them a waterproof finish.

The decision to use recycled wood may act not only as a sign of how durable the material is, as well as being sustainable.

Wooden flooring could be the ideal element to place in a home when carrying out a makeover, it was suggested last week.

The Globe and Mail stated that there are many ways to get a revamp wrong and remarked that a sensible way to avoid this is to "play to your home's strength, whether it's a nice floor plan, beautiful wood floors or well-chosen finishes".
