Refurbishment plans may boost carpet sales

DIY is proving increasingly popular in the UK according to a new survey, something that may increase demand for carpets.

A recent poll by Aspect Maintenance in London found that 70 per cent of householders intend to make improvements to their home in the next 12 months.

For some, this will be in an attempt to raise the value of the property, as 14 per cent indicated they wanted to sell their residence in 2010.

Commenting on the findings, editor of Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine Jason Orme said: "I see no reason why people wouldn't be doing more work on their house in the next year."

This would include loft convertions and the addition of extra bedrooms, he stated.

Many such new rooms could have carpets fitted once the other work on them is done.

A survey by Lloyds TSB in September found that loft conversions were one of the most popular ways to improve a home in the previous 12 months.
