Rising house sales may prompt new flooring demand

UK flooring demand may rise as a result of a further increase in the number of new homes up for sale.

Figures from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) revealed that 28 per cent more of its members saw an increase in the number of instructions to sell than a fall in this number during November.

This means that overall, the number of homes being put on the market is rising, the sixth successive month in which this has happened.

At the same time, a net balance of 35 per cent of surveyors said prices were rising rather than falling, up from 34 per cent in October.

Rics said these house price increases are a result of the demand for homes growing faster than supply, a trend that may encourage more people who want to sell houses to put them on the market.

The more people move home, the more may wish to make changes to the interiors of their new residences, which could include flooring.

Evidence of rising housing market activity was also shown by recent Council of Mortgage Lenders figures revealing that 55,300 loans for house purchase were agreed in October, the highest since December 2007.
