Rugs becoming unfashionable

Rugs have been condemned as out of date and bad choices in terms of interior design as more and more people turn away from the traditional floor covering.

People have chosen rugs to accompany their flooring for many years now for a variety of reasons, yet recently bad press and a decline in sales have hit the market.

In terms of décor the argument is that rugs can cause rooms to look to cluttered and untidy, and with fashion leaning towards minimalist styles over recent years rugs have fallen from popularity.

However, colourful flooring is being touted as the latest fashion, which could benefit the rug market as a splash of colour can be introduced to existing design schemes.

A room which appears cluttered is usually down to too much furniture and this can be exacerbated by a rug which is too large for the room it is placed in.

Rugs do have a lot to offer in terms of aesthetic appeal but they also have an important role in protecting the flooring from wear in areas of high foot traffic.

The right rug will also add an attractive focal point to a room so, as long as time is taken to consider size and design options, rugs remain a great addition to your flooring.
