Sales surge for single carpet firm
Profits have doubled for one carpet manufacturer over the last six months, despite the general drop in sales across the high street and the flooring market.
Amidst the negative press about companies being forced in to liquidation and declining sales across the world one carpet firm in the UK is still succeeding.
News recently has been filled with information about rising prices of raw materials which are causing the price of carpets and other flooring to rise.
The news is particularly sweet for the carpet manufacturer, Victoria based in Kidderminster, because last year they were forced to announce a loss of £530,000.
The company’s chief executive described high street attitudes as ‘fragile’ and blamed increasing VAT for the problems facing stores.
The Irish side of Victoria was closed at the beginning of the year after sustaining heavy losses, although the firm is still able to supply carpets to Ireland via the Kidderminster base.
Unfortunately, although it has been good news for Victoria, it does not appear that there is much good news for the rest of the carpet industry.
Across the market figures continue to look bleak, although most suppliers will experience a surge in sales during the typically more successful autumn months.
