Sealed skirting boards 'reduce carbon emissions'

New skirting boards could contribute to a significant reduction in energy consumption, it has been suggested.

Chris Goodall of the Guardian highlighted a number of ways in which Britons could seek to meet targets of reducing carbon emissions by ten per cent.

The typical consumer will have to cut output by around 1.5 tonnes to meet the objective, he noted, with changes in household energy use one of the main ways to do this.

New flooring accessories in the shape of skirting boards may aid in the cause, as Mr Goodall noted that these can be a factor.

By increasing loft insulation and sealing doors and skirting boards, an annual carbon dioxide emission saving of 0.2 tonnes would be made by the typical household, he said.

Later this month, TV builder Craig Philips is hosting a Chix & Mortar DIY training event at Richmond Adult College, with women being invited to learn how to carry out work such as installing new skirting boards.
