A green carpet replaced the traditional red one as the stars came out for the royal premiere of the new Alice in Wonderland film.
The unusual coloured surface was spread outside the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square as famous actors and actresses such as Johnny Depp, Matt Lucas, Michael Sheen, Helena Bonham-Carter and Anne Hathaway braved the rain on their way in.
The lead role of Alice is played by Australian actress Mia Wasikowska.
Cast members met the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall as the Richard Burton-directed film opened in 3D.
The new film format was also a central attraction of the science fiction film Avatar, which saw an unusually coloured carpet at its premieres as well.
In that instance, a blue carpet was used to represent the skin colour of the aliens on the habitable moon Pandora, who battle against humans trying to mine resources on their planet with no regard for their ecosystem.
