Sustainable hotel chooses bamboo and cork flooring

Bamboo and cork flooring is helping one hotel in the US state of Wisconsin remain environmentally-friendly, it has been observed.

According to Sustainablog, Hotel Metro in Milwaukee is using the materials as part of an overall effort to be green.

Owners of the establishment consulted designer Madame Kuony in order to identify ways in which they could achieve the aim when the building became a hotel 11 years ago.

And those seeking sustainable flooring for the home may wish to take note of the measures, which included using bamboo and cork in the lobby.

Executive assistant at Hotel Metro Allison Geschke explained: "The wood veneers in the rooms and public areas as well as the bamboo flooring throughout the hotel are sustainable forest products."

American Airlines recently announced that it is planning to recycle the corks from wine bottles in many of its VIP lounges, with flooring among the products they will be used to create.
