Talk on Kidderminster carpet industry to be held
A lecture is to be staged on the subject of the carpet industry in Kidderminster.

Expert Melvyn Thompson, who has spent his whole working life employed in the industry, is to give the talk at Clent Parish Hall on Thursday April 29th, Stourbridge News reports.

Mr Thompson, who has been involved in the establishment of the Kidderminster Carpet Museum Trust and the town's carpet museum, has also written a book, entitled Woven in Kidderminster.

The event will be hosted by the Clent History Society and held at the venue on Church Street, Clent, during which the speaker will discuss the history and development of carpet-making in the Worcestershire town, a tradition that continues to this day.

In its recent pre-election report on the Wyre Forest constituency, which contains Kidderminster, Politics.co.uk noted that there are still two large firms operating there, Brintons and Victoria Carpets.

The tradition of carpet-making in the town dates from the 18th century.
