Engineered flooring can be an ideal choice for those looking for a traditional option for their home, according to an expert.
Writing for the Chicago Daily Herald, remodelling consultant Henri DeMarne explained that oak strip flooring in particular could be preferred.
He was responding to a query from a reader, who expressed concern that engineered or laminate flooring will not be as stable or durable as hardwood.
Mr DeMarne noted that some engineered flooring is nailed down and that having it installed by professionals can help allay such fears.
He recommended allowing oak flooring to become acclimatised before it is laid, stating: "Be sure that it is brought into your house a week ahead of the installation date and that it is stacked according to the manufacturers' recommendations."
Industry specialist Jeremy Freeman recently told US TV station WFMY that durability is an important consideration when installing new flooring in a home.
