Turkish delight for Nepalese carpet
Nepalese carpet is enjoying growing popularity in Turkey, it has been revealed.

Owner of a carpet store in the town of Antalya Mehmet Can said that thanks to higher input prices and labour costs, such products have become increasingly favoured in the country, Hurriyet Daily News reports.

The prices of domestically-produced wool carpets have dropped as consumers have switched to partly-synthetic items from the Himalayan country, Mr Can noted.

He added: "People willing to use handmade and top of the line carpets instead of machinery made carpet have started to opt for hand-knotted carpets produced in Nepal."

The expert said the "brightness of the wool" and the range of colours provided by such products has helped make them appeal to Turkish consumers.

Another country's carpets that have recently been praised are those from Bulgaria.

Overseas investor magazine Quest Property Bulgaria noted that the products are durable, provide an authentic taste of Bulgarian culture and are part of an industry that has dated back to Ottoman times.
