UK housing market 'to see real recovery' next year

There will be a major recovery in the UK property market in 2010, it has been predicted.

Company director at the Little House Company Jane Marr said that the house price rises seen in recent months have mainly been due to a lack of homes on the market and predicted that when this corrects itself, the initial result may be that prices stop increasing for a time.

However, she added, there will be a more sustained and deep-rooted revival to come, remarking: "It seems that 2010 will be the start of a real recovery for the UK housing market once confidence from both sellers and buyers returns."

Such a situation could prompt a fresh increase in construction as builders respond to a strongly growing market.

Ms Marr's comments come in the wake of a series of surveys indicating that prices rose in October.

Halifax put this figure at 1.2 per cent, while according to Nationwide it was 0.4 per cent.
