Rising global demand for wool carpets is helping to boost employment prospects in New Zealand, it has been reported.
Over the past couple of years, as consumers and corporate buyers struggled with the worldwide economic downturn, a number of carpet-making firms in the country have been forced to reduce output, with many even laying off some of their workers.
However, it has now been reported that as orders increase recruitment has stepped up, with Summit Wool Spinners among the companies already benefitting from the global economic upturn and the ongoing demand for high-quality wool carpets.
According to Auckland's NewstalkZB, the Oamaru-based firm saw 70 of its workers opt to take voluntary redundancy last April.
However, the company has now confirmed that 19 of these workers have been taken back on in the past two months alone as it returns to full production.
Speaking to the radio news provider, director Ricky Hammond-Tooke cited rising demand for wool carpets in the Australian, American and South East Asian markets as a major factor behind this new recruitment drive.
Just this week, Floorbiz reported that Wools of New Zealand is to host a number of hands-on seminars at the upcoming Surfaces exhibition in Las Vegas.
