Vegas carpets featured in exhibition

A new exhibition has featured the garish carpets of the Las Vegas casinos - as well as what appears to be their true purpose.

New York-based Swedish photographer Chris Maluszynski is staging the show - called Las Vegas Carpets - after noticing how bright and multicoloured they were on a visit to the famous gaming city two years ago.

The reason for this, he contends, is they distract people from sleep and ensure they stay up late into the night gambling more money.

Director of the Center for Gaming Research at the University of Nevada Dave Schwarz agreed, saying: "Casino carpet is known as an exercise in deliberate bad taste that somehow encourages people to gamble."

Those seeking an attractive carpet without a garish kaleidoscope of colours may be interested in items such as the pea green of the Cormar Carpets Primo Plus Twist Onyx or the dark red of the same manufacturer's New Oaklands Twist Crimson.
