Vinyl flooring a feature of revamped bar

Vinyl flooring has been chosen as one of the features of the newly refurbished senior staff mess bar at the Royal Military College of Canada.

Speaking about the revamp to Sun Media, engineering officer for the institution Major Julia Atherley said the rooms had become "worn and dilapidated" with heavy use.

She added: "We have chosen inexpensive finishes such as carpet and vinyl flooring, laminate countertops and a prefabricated millwork rather than custom-made and painted wall finishes."

The whole refurbishment of the venue - which will also see new stairs, railings and lighting installed as well as having its two bar areas converted into one large space - will cost CAD$415,000 (£237,000).

Vinyl flooring's virtues include being very hygienic, it was recently stated.

Co-founder of Greenspirit strategies Dr Patrick Moore noted that the material is frequently used for flooring in hospitals as it is less prone to harbouring germs than other substances.
