Vinyl flooring is one of the best materials those with pets can choose, it has been suggested.

Avon-based designer Llona House wrote in a blog for the Hartford Courant how having pet-friendly floors matters because so many people keep cats and dogs.

She stated: "Vinyl floors are now "green" and fabulous for pets," suggesting the development of such products has helped make these a viable choice.

Ms House also said wood could be a good material to have if it is "thickly sealed" and of medium-dark colour, as this will hide scratches.

These pointers were among a range of tips offered by the blogger to avoid floor and furniture damage, as well as dealing with issues such as fur shedding.

Vinyl flooring that combines the benefits of the material with the look of wood include the RhinoFloor Vinyl Woods Tavola Spice floor, which has rhinogrip anti-slip to stop pets or people sliding around even when the floor is wet.
